According to GSHAP data, Myanmar (Burma) lies in a region with high to very high seismic hazard that increases steadily to the north in the Kachin state and Sagaing Division. Earthquakes in the M7.0-8.0 range have been experienced along the Sagaing fault system that runs in a north-south direction. Earthquakes with intermediate foci occur along the borders with India and Bangladesh. The lowest hazard in Myanmar is in the south of the country in the Tanintharyi division.
